White Pages Reverse Directory

So-called “grey page directories” usually refers to a published reverse directory, such as “White Pages” or “Yellow Pages”.  This type of reverse directory allows the user to locate a name and address from a telephone number.  Previously published once a year, variations of this concept are found on the internet under the trade names “Reverse Phone Detective” “Reverse Mobile”, and many others.

Telephone directories typically are delivered once a year from your local phone service company.  According  to wikipedia, the first white page directory was published in 1878.  The name and address listings were fairly complete only because the option to have an unlisted number didn’t come into play until much later.

Whitepage directories usually refer to residential listings with listing sorted in alphabetical order, while yellowpage directories cover business listed by name and/or business type.  These phone number resources are published by the phone company servicing the subscribers local area.

Recent advancements in online database technology have essentially rendered the original published phone directories obsolete.  The costs associated with printing and distributing automatically outdated phone lookup information has made online reverse phone lookup options much more appealing than standard telephone directories.
